SUMMARY
When you run the Microsoft Office Maintenance Mode Setup and choose Remove All, the setup routine may remove the custom dictionary file. This typically happens if you did a Typical or Complete/Custom installation to install Microsoft Office Standard or Professional to a workstation.

When you perform a Typical, Complete/Custom, Laptop(Minimum), or Workstation installation of Microsoft Office Standard or Professional packages, a custom dictionary file with the name CUSTOM.DIC may be created with a size of zero bytes. This file is typically placed under the WINDOWS/MSAPPS/PROOF directory. This file is modified during a spelling check when you choose to add words to the custom dictionary file.
If you originally did a Typical or Complete/Custom installation, and then run the Maintenance Mode Setup and choose to Remove All, then the setup routine may remove the custom dictionary file.
Note: This file is not overwritten if a file with the same name exists.
