Bitstream FaceLift and the Genigraphics Driver PSS ID Number: Q70701 Article last modified on 05-15-1991 PSS database name: W_PowerPt

Summary:

Bitstream FaceLift should not be installed for the Microsoft PowerPoint Genigraphics driver. Trying to print to Genigraphics with FaceLift installed will give the following error message:

Genigraphics is unable to prepare optimized transmission for this application. It is necessary to disable this feature, which appears in the CUSTOM section of the Job Instructions Dialog Box.

If OK is chosen, the additional error message may appear:

Sorry, the chosen printer cannot be found. Select a printer, or check the network.

In addition, a SHELLPRT error may be received when selecting the Genigraphics driver or running Setup for the Genigraphics driver from PowerPoint.

More Information:

Bitstream Facelift can be installed for some or all of the printer drivers present on the system. For each printer for which Facelift is installed, the line in the [PrinterPorts] section of the WIN.INI is rewritten. If Facelift is installed for the Genigraphics driver, the line that should read

Genigraphics Driver=GENIGRPH,FILE:,15,45

is changed to

Genigraphics Driver=SHELLPRT,FILE:,15,45

Before printing a file to the Genigraphics driver from PowerPoint, it is necessary to deinstall FaceLift for the Genigraphics driver. This is done by double-clicking the Printers icon in the FaceLift Control Panel. In the Installed Printers box, select the Genigraphics driver and press the Unassign SHELL driver radio button. It is then necessary to view WIN.INI and verify that the Genigraphics line has returned to its former state, as shown above. If the WIN.INI has not been returned to its original state, that line must by modified manually. It is then necessary to restart Windows.

Once FaceLift is deinstalled for the Genigraphics driver, it should be possible to print to Genigraphics, even if FaceLift is active.
