Summary:

Conversion of files to and from Lotus Corporation’s Ami Professional word processor is not currently supported by Microsoft Word for Windows. However, Ami Word supports reading from and writing to Microsoft Word for Windows through version 1.1a. Conversion can be performed directly or via Rich Text Format (RTF).

Support for Ami Professional file conversion filters is the sole responsibility of Lotus Corporation. In addition, Microsoft has not tested this conversion and cannot guarantee proper functionality.

For Ami Professional support, contact Lotus Technical Support at (404) 399-5505.

When loading Microsoft Word and RTF files into Ami Professional, there are three options for paragraph styles.

  1. Keep Style Names

Choose this option if style names exist in the Ami Professional document that match the style names in the Word for Windows or RTF document, and it is desired that the text be formatted using the characteristics of the Ami Professional styles.

  2. Use Styles

Choose this option if it is desired that all the attributes in the Word for Windows or RTF document (whether they were assigned through the styles or independently of the styles) be applied as text attributes in the Ami Professional document. All paragraphs will use the body text style.

  3. Ignore Styles

Choose this option if it is desired that only the character and paragraph attributes assigned independently of the styles in the Word for Windows or RTF document be applied as text attributes in the Ami Professional document. All paragraphs will use the body text style.

Outline and shadow text, and embedded tables, are imported as regular text.

Frames, embedded graphics, table of contents, index, annotations, fields, bookmarks, and formulas are not imported.

No page layout format information is imported. The imported file takes on the page format of the current Ami Professional style sheet.
