SYMPTOMS
When you play a .wav file on an IBM computer, and then adjust the volume on the taskbar, the volume adjustment is ignored.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because IBM computers have the Autodesk Device Interface (ADI) codec, which is incompatible with the Audio Codec (AC) '97 Intel audio driver.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
- Play a .wav file.
- Double-click Volume on the taskbar.
- In the Volume Control dialog box, adjust the volume on the Wave Volume panel and not on the Volume Control panel.
STATUS
This issue affects only those IBM computers that ship with the ADI codec.
