Error message when you create a list of Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server project members in Excel 2003: TF80070

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Excel 2003, when you create a list of project members by using the Assigned To field in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

TF80070: Team Foundation encountered an error while performing the operation. It is recommended that you save your work and restart the application.

This problem occurs when you use Excel 2003 to connect to a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server team project.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the project has more than 65,536 members.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

  • Reduce the number of project members to 65,536 or fewer.
  • Upgrade to Microsoft Office Excel 2007.


MORE INFORMATION

Excel 2003 supports a maximum of 65,536 rows. Excel 2007 supports a maximum of 1,048,576 rows.
