The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 code generator generates incorrect code when you use the following Visual C++ compiler options for 64-bit target systems:

  • Maximize Speed (/01)
  • Maximize Size (/02)

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) does not include this hotfix. Because Visual Studio 2005 SP1 installs a C2.dll file that is a later version than the C2.dll file that is included in this hotfix, this hotfix does not replace the C2.dll file from Visual Studio 2005 SP1.
