SUMMARY

This article describes the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit.

MORE INFORMATION

With the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit, you can play DVD movies on your Xbox console. This kit is necessary to enable DVD movie playback for the Xbox video game system. The kit includes an infrared receiver and a remote control. To use the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit, plug the infrared receiver into a controller port, and then use the remote control to play movies on your Xbox console. The DVD Movie Playback Kit is sold separately from the Xbox video game system. You can buy the Xbox DVD Movie Playback kit anywhere the Xbox video game system is sold.

After you purchase the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit and put the DVD infrared receiver into your Xbox, the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit permanently codes the Xbox based on the region that your kit is from. From that point forward, you can only play DVDs from the region that the Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit is from or DVDs without regional coding. You cannot play DVDs from other regions.

Region information

Region numbers are displayed on both the DVD disc and the DVD Movie Playback Kit. The regions are:

  • Region 1 - U.S.A, U.S. territories and Canada (Part Number X08-25387)
  • Region 2 - Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa and Greenland (Part Number X08-25402)
  • Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong (Part Number X08-96288-XXX)

In this example, XXX is the specific part number of the DVD dongle/receiver. For more information, see the note after this list.

  • Region 4 - Colombia, Mexico, South & Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Caribbean (Part Number X08-25597)
  • Region 5 - Russia, Eastern Europe, India, Africa excluding South Africa, North Korea and Mongolia (No DVD Movie Playback Kits Sold)
  • Region 6 - China (No DVD Movie Playback Kits Sold)

Note These specified part numbers apply to the DVD dongle/receiver itself. These part numbers do not apply to the remote, the manual, or any other part in the package that may have a part number. If you have to verify any part numbers, make sure that you verify the part number for the DVD dongle/receiver.

Selecting the region

Which DVD kit should I purchase?

Purchase the Xbox Console and DVD Movie Playback Kit that matches the region in which you are located. After you buy your DVD Playback kit and use it with your Xbox console, your console is permanently coded to whichever region appears on the outside the DVD Movie Playback Kit packaging. You cannot play DVDs from another region on that console (except for DVDs without regional coding) even if you later try to use a DVD Movie Playback Kit from another region on that console. For example, if you have purchased a Region 1 DVD Movie Playback Kit and now want to watch a Region 4 DVD, you cannot do so with your Xbox console.

Changing regions

To change the DVD region on your Xbox console:

  1. Send in your Xbox console for repair to have it re-adjusted to play DVDs from the region that you want.

You must pay for a repair in this instance, regardless of warranty status.

  1. Purchase a DVD Movie Playback Kit sold for this region to use after your Xbox console is repaired. After you do this, you can only play DVDs from this region from that point forward. It is a permanent change.
