PSS ID Number: Q49664 Article last modified on 06-12-1996
To manually install Works version 2.00 on a hard drive, complete the following steps:
Note: The printer drivers, screen drivers, and WORKS.EXE are compressed. The printer drivers and screen drivers must be decompressed to be usable. WORKS.EXE does not need to be decompressed to operate, but decompression improves the performance of the program.
Steps to install:
Create a Working directory on your hard drive using the DOS MKDIR command.
Copy SETUP.EXE from the Setup disk in Drive A to your working directory on the hard drive, and make this directory current. Leave the Setup disk in Drive A.
Copy and decompress the desired printer driver by typing the following:
SETUP DRIVE:PATH.CPR DRIVE:PATH.PRD
For example, to copy the printer driver for the Microsoft Z or Z1A cartridge for the HP LaserJet from Drive A to the working directory C:, type the following:
SETUP A:HPLASMS.CPR C:.PRD
Copy and decompress the appropriate screen driver for your video card configuration by typing the following:
SETUP DRIVE:PATH.CVD DRIVE:PATH.VID
For example, to copy the screen driver for a VGA configuration from Drive A: to the working directory C:, type the following:
SETUP A:VGA.CVD C:.VID
Insert the Program disk in Drive A. Copy and decompress the executable program file, WORKS.EXE, by typing the following:
SETUP A:WORKS.PGM DRIVE:PATH.EXE
SETUP A:WORKS.PGM C:.EXE
Copy the contents of the Accessories, Learning Works, Spell and Help, and Thesaurus disks to the Works directory on the hard drive. LEARN.PIF and WORKS.PIF can be copied off the Setup disk if you plan to run Works under Microsoft Windows.
