If a VGA screen driver is used with an IBM 8514 monitor and 8514/A graphics card, Microsoft Word versions 5.00 and 5.50 will provide support for only two colors.
To obtain color support with the 8514 monitor and 8514/A video adapter, an 8514/A screen driver should be used. The 8514/A screen driver provides support for 25- and 50-line text modes with 16 colors in VGA resolution, and 38- and 48-line graphics modes with 16 colors in 1024 x 768 resolution. The files EGA.SYS and MOUS8514.SYS must also be installed via the CONFIG.SYS file with this configuration.
To obtain color support with an 8514 monitor used as a VGA monitor, plug the monitor into the PS/2 motherboard VGA port and use a VGA screen driver. This configuration will support eight VGA modes with 16 colors.
If the EGA.SYS and MOUS8514.SYS files are being used, the EGA.SYS file must be installed before the MOUS8514.SYS file is installed. To do this, make sure the statement
in the CONFIG.SYS file.
