The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 3.x, 4.00, and 4.01

One difference between IBM PC-DOS and Microsoft MS-DOS is the availability of the utilities LINK.EXE and EXE2BIN.EXE. With IBM PC-DOS, starting with Version 3.30, these utilities are no longer included with the normal PC-DOS release, and are instead included with the supplemental disk that comes with the “IBM PC-DOS Technical Reference.” However, EXE2BIN.EXE and LINK.EXE are included on the general MS-DOS release.

The following two additional utilities are included on the IBM PC-DOS Technical Reference supplemental disk, but are not included in the Microsoft MS-DOS release:

  1. The LIB.EXE library utility. This tool comes with all of the Microsoft language products, but does not come with MS-DOS itself.
  2. VDISK.ASM, the source code for an older release of VDISK.SYS, the IBM virtual disk device driver. This source code does not reflect the latest revision of VDISK.SYS. Microsoft MS-DOS does not include source code to its equivalent driver, RAMDRIVE.SYS.
