Summary: The error message “OPEN FAIL: Prog.CBL 53-U” is displayed when the COBOL compiler cannot find the specified source code. This error can commonly occur under the following three circumstances: 1. The extension is not .CBL or as specified in COBOL.DIR with the OSEXT“xxx” directive. 2. The name is misspelled. 3.
