Use MSIEXEC to install a specific server administration tool that is contained in Adminpak.msi

By default, when you install the Administration Pack, all the available tools in the Administration Pack are installed. However, you can use Windows Installer command-line switches to install specific server administration tools.

For example, you can run the following command from a command prompt:

msiexec /i adminpak.msi ADDLOCAL=AdminToolAbbreviation /qb

NoteAdminToolAbbreviation is the abbreviated name of the server administration tool that you want to install and that is contained in the Windows 2000 Adminpak.msi file or the Windows Server 2003 Adminpak.msi file.

Note You must copy the Adminpak.msi file to a location on the hard disk that is included in the Windows path, or you must include the path of the Adminpak.msi file in the command line.

For example, to use the WINS snap-in to install a specific individual server administration tool, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD into the CD drive.
  2. In Windows Explorer, open the I386 folder on the Windows 2000 Server CD or on the Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD.
  3. Copy the Adminpak.msi file to the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder on the hard disk.
  4. Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

    msiexec /i adminpak.msi ADDLOCAL=FeWINSConsole /qb

To locate the WINS snap-in, click Start, point to Programs, and then click Administrative Tools.
