If you are programatically creating a shortcut with a long file name (such as Z:\Longfilename\Mytext.txt) and drive Z is not currently mapped to a network share, the long file name is truncated. For example, the target path is set to Z:\Longfile\Mytext.txt.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
To work around this problem, map a drive to the network share and create the shortcut.
