OL2000: Outlook Stops Responding If an Instance of a Recurring Item Is Deleted

Article ID: 254584

Article Last Modified on 11/5/2003

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q254584

When you delete one instance of a recurring item which uses Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) code, Outlook may stop responding.

The problem is caused by the difference between recurring items which use VBScript and recurring items which do not. If the item uses VBScript, it cannot release the reference to an object when you delete an instance of the recurring item. This may cause Outlook to stop responding or hang.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To obtain SR-1/SR-1a, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To temporarily work around this problem, do not delete an instance of a recurring item which uses VBScript.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
