When you are logged on as a client computer connected to a computer running Windows 2000 Terminal Services, if you attempt to save a file using the HTML file type in Microsoft Word 2000 or Microsoft Excel 2000, the file may become damaged.

This behavior occurs because a conflict exists between the file permissions that Microsoft FrontPage 2000 and Microsoft Internet Explorer use when processing a file with a cached entry.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This update is part of the Windows 2000 Critical Update, February 17, 2000, that is available on the following Microsoft Web site:

You can also download this critical update (for installation later or on a different computer) from the following Microsoft Web site:

NOTE: To view the version, right-click the file in Windows Explorer, click Properties, and then click Version.

To work around this issue:

  1. Save the file.
  2. Check Internet Explorer to see that the file is there.

NOTE: Verify your changes so you know you are not looking at the cached copy.

  1. If the file is blank, save the file again until it is properly displayed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
