If you receive a message, and then forward this message to another recipient while using a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) client, you may lose the fidelity of the original message.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

The behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, occurs in the following scenario:

  1. The recipient of an incoming SMTP message opens this message in Microsoft Outlook.
  2. The message is forwarded to the same user in Outlook.
  3. Both of these messages are downloaded using a Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) client.

During this process, the message fidelity of the original message is lost.
