SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view folder contents in FrontPage after you manually edit the permissions on a folder in the Web content area, the files in that folder are deleted.

There is a very specific set of circumstances that cause this problem to occur:

  • The permissions on the folder are domainname\username Special Access (none)(RWXD).
  • The username is not in another group that has access to the Web.
  • The server is using the FrontPage Server Extensions version 4.0.2.2717.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, if you need this specific permissions setup, you can move the folder outside the content area and use a virtual directory to include it in the Web site.

For instructions on how to create a virtual directory browse to http://localhost/iishelp/iis/htm/core/iicodirv.htm on the Web server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.

MORE INFORMATION

In general, manually editing permissions with the FrontPage Server Extensions is not recommended due to the complex permissions structure that FrontPage maintains. For a complete set of required permissions, see the Server Extensions Resource Kit on the following Microsoft Web site:
