MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 1.x and 2.x

SUMMARY

When you create a chart in a Microsoft Works Spreadsheet, you cannot select wide (landscape) orientation to print it because the Page Setup command is dimmed when you open the File menu. This behavior occurs because of the design of the charting features.

NOTE: This limitation does not exist in Microsoft Works for the Macintosh versions 3.0 and 4.0.

WORKAROUND

To print a chart in wide orientation, paste it into a Word Processor document in Works versions 1.00 and 1.10 or a Word Processor or Spreadsheet document in Works version 2.00.

In Works 1.x, do the following to print a chart in wide orientation:

  1. Activate the chart and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
  2. From the File menu, choose New and specify a new Word Processor document.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
  4. Select the chart (now a graphic) by clicking it with the mouse.
  5. Move the cursor to any edge of the graphic until the cursor is shaped like a plus sign (+).
  6. Hold down the mouse button and drag the edge of the graphic to size it appropriately within the margins.
  7. From the File menu, choose Page Setup and select the wide orientation option.
  8. From the File menu, choose Print and click OK.

In Works 2.00, do the following to print a chart in wide orientation:

  1. Activate the chart and choose Copy from the Edit menu.
  2. From the File menu, choose New and specify a new Word Processor or Spreadsheet document.
  3. From the File menu, choose Page Setup to select the page size and orientation to print.
  4. Set the appropriate indents on the ruler.
  5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste. The chart will automatically be pasted into the Draw layer.
  6. Resize the chart by dragging any of the handles (the black squares) surrounding it.
  7. Move the chart by clicking and dragging inside the area surrounded by the handles.
  8. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the graphic is sized appropriately within the margins.
  9. From the File menu, choose Print and click OK.
