The Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) Client Add Pack has the ability to record the usage history of the diskette. This information is written in the upper area of the Distribution Media Format (DMF) formatting, and can only be used by the Setup program. This article describes how you can view this information.
The Setup program has a verification switch that can be used to display the usage history of the SBS Client Add Pack diskette. To view this information, type setup -v at a command prompt, and then press ENTER. The following values are displayed:
Description: The serial number of the diskette.
Description: Number of times the diskette has been used.
Description: Number of licenses (in hexadecimal format) the diskette is able to add to SBS.
Description: If the diskette has been used before, this number reflects the number of client licenses that were on the server before the diskette was used. If the diskette has never been used, this value is set to 0.
Description: If the diskette was used before, the media access control (MAC) address of the network adapter on the server is written here. If the diskette has never been used, this value is set to 0.
Description: The current number of client licenses on the server.
Description: The current MAC address of the NIC in the server.
If the diskette has been used before, the Setup program compares the two MAC addresses to verify that the diskette is being reused on the same server. If the values do not match, you are then prompted for a password. For additional information about this issue, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
