SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to dial your financial institution, you get a busy signal or the following error message:

Online Services is busy or the number that was dialed is not correct. Please check the number in Online Services Setup, and/or try the call again later.

When you attempt to dial to the Branding Server (BDS) to download information about your bank, you get a busy signal or the following error message:

Online Services is busy or the number that was dialed is not correct. If this problem continues, try reinstalling Money from your original product disks.

CAUSE

Having a "1" in the Long Distance box of the Dialing Properties, causes the connection to fail.

RESOLUTION

Check the telephone number being dialed. If you are dialing a local number there should not be a 1 preceding the phone number. The phone number should only be proceded by a 1 if you are dialing long distance.

MORE INFORMATION

To check the phone number being dialed, or to delete an extra 1 from the phone number being dialed, follow these steps for your version of Money.

Money 5.0

  1. Click Go To and click Home Banking.
  2. Click to select the Connect tab.
  3. Click Connect and enter your PIN number as prompted.
  4. The phone number is listed between "Online PIN:" and "Your location:" in the Call Online Services dialog.

NOTE: If the phone number is proceded by a 1, continue to step five.
  5. Click Dialing Properties.
  6. In the section titled, "How I dial from this location" find the following line:

To access an outside line, first dial __ for local, __ for long distance.

  7. If there is a 1 in either of the boxes, delete it by pressing the DELETE or BACKSPACE key.

NOTE: Windows 95 automatically dials a 1 when dialing a number with an area code other than yours; so these boxes must be left blank, except when you must first dial a "9" or other number to get an outside line.

Money 4.0

  1. Click Go To and select your bank in the Online Services area.
  2. Click Call and enter your PIN number as prompted.
  3. The phone number is listed between "Online PIN:" and "Your location:" in the Call Online Services dialog.

NOTE: If the phone number is proceded by a 1, continue to step four.
  4. Click Dialing Properties.
  5. In the section titled, "How I dial from this location" find the following line.

To access an outside line, first dial __ for local, __ for long distance.

  6. If there is a 1 in either box, delete it by pressing the DELETE or BACKSPACE key.

NOTE: Windows 95 automatically dials a 1 when dialing a number with an area code other than yours; so these boxes must be left blank, except when you must first dial a "9" or other number to get an outside line.
