PRB: Subform Column Width Changes Made in Main Form Not Saved

Article ID: Q105656
Creation Date: 22-OCT-1993
Revision Date: 19-SEP-1996 The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If a subform is in Datasheet view on a main form, and you change the width of the columns on the subform, the changes will not be retained when the main form is closed and then reopened.

CAUSE

When you modify a subform while it is being viewed on a main form, you are actually modifying a copy of the subform, not the actual subform itself.

RESOLUTION

To change column widths on the subform, open the subform independently of the main form, make the changes, and save the subform. Then force the main form to get a new copy of the subform by closing and then reopening the main form, or by clicking in the subform control on the main form and then pressing ENTER.

STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0.
