Password with Extended Characters Fails When Using NET Command
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.1
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1
Try to connect to a share on an OS/2 or Windows for Workgroups computer. Use the NET command and let it prompt you for a password. If the password has any extended characters, you are not able to gain access to the share.
The NET command destroys ALT key sequences.
Enter the password on the NET command line, using the ALT key for extended characters.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
