When you use the Best Fit option on a Microsoft Project resource view such as the Resource Sheet, you may receive the following errors:
If you are using version 3.1 of Windows or Windows for Workgroups —————————————————————-
WINPROJ caused a General Protection fault in module WINPROJ.EXE
If you are using Microsoft Project for the Macintosh —————————————————-
The application “unknown” has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 1 has occurred.
To reset column widths on a resource view, do any of the following:
In the Column Definition dialog box, type a value in the Width field and choose OK.
Change the column width while you edit the table by choosing the Define Tables command from the Tables menu.
Use your mouse to drag the resource view column to the desired width.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above. This problem was corrected in version 4.0 of Microsoft Project.
Steps to Reproduce Problem
- Start Microsoft Project.
- From the View menu, choose Resource Sheet.
- From the Table menu, choose Work.
- Enter a resource, “R1” (without the quotation marks).
- Double-click the “Actual” column title.
The Column Definition dialog box appears and the Field Name says “Actual Work.”
- Click the Best Fit button.
