Delete some whacky files
After recently removing a virus from a laptop- among other things
I was unable to remove a diretory filled with whacky corrupt files with titles such as this : "ÇséW■.pÉ". Is there a program that can delete them, chkdsk is not available on the computer, and their corrupt nature prevents me from taking ownership. Furthermore, Windows LiveOne care won't properly work...

Re: Delete some whacky files
Tried removing them while booted into a WinPE disk, or a Linux Live CD?

Ew, looks like drive corruption to me.

ALSO
the cd-drive does not work on the laptop (or else I would have reinstalled)
Basically -> I need a downloadable solution
Re: Delete some whacky files
If you get an access denied error while deleting files try Unlocker.

Re: Delete some whacky files
tried, that and it found no errors
-> I know for a fact there are errors as some of the files show as 20+ gigs on a 12 gig HD
AND
unlocker doesn't work -> It detects no permission problems and then after restart the files are still there...

How olds the laptop?Frozenport wrote: Basically -> I need a downloadable solution
If it's Vista capable you couuld just extract the contents of an installation ISO and re-install from that.
There are plenty of versions of Linux for USB stick, tried deleting the files while booted into somthing like that?
Re: Delete some whacky files
Or copying what you need and reinstalling.
Re: Delete some whacky files
He already said he can't do that because the CD drive isn't working.zamadatix wrote:Or copying what you need and reinstalling.

Re: Delete some whacky files
Floppies? you would need about 500-600 for an OEM copy of xp, or 80 for xp micro...zamadatix wrote:There are more ways than a cd to install windows...
I would go with booting off a floppy, and starting a home built recovery partition, make sure you have an antivirus and a few other good apps on that recovery partition, and you should be good then...

Re: Delete some whacky files
Usb or lan are better options than floppies...
Re: Delete some whacky files
True but not all computers support booting from USB unless you have some kind of software that allows it
Re: Delete some whacky files
Put grub on a floppy and... well just Google it and I am sure the thing has a lan port
