[REQ] Microsoft Codename Max with RSS reader for news

Post by Emir214 »

A description and screenshots of this version (released around 9 September 2006) is available at the BA Wiki. The version available at the FTP does not have the RSS reader.

The link (from here) has unfortunately not been archived at the Wayback Machine.

EDIT: I should have figured this is an online installer. It won't work. You actually need a system from that time period with Max installed (or if someone archived the files which I doubt).

EDIT 2:
Here are some useful resources, dunno if you've seen them or not.
General:

Update-specific:
https://web.archive.org/web/20200804094 ... m.com/1268 -- it doesn't actually download the updated version? Like I said, the only hope would be someone still having this on their hard drive.

EDIT (in an edit, yep):
Or not. https://microsoft.public.windows.develo ... ne-install

Based on this: https://www.damasgate.net/vb/showthread.php?t=48090
the m_pkg.exe was the older version (dates are setember 2005). I can just conclude that the newer version was offered as an "inplace" update for existing versions and that a full package was not offered for the new version.

I have find this link too :

Source for the original URL
This is the older version online installer. The full, offline version of this particular beta is available on the FTP.

The OP is looking for a newer version which was released in 2006.

Hey cityboy figured you'd come ;)
The one you shared (I downloaded it and checked) is the older version of 2005, version 1.0.50831. The OP is looking for a newer one released 2006 (shortly before Max was canceled) version 1.60831. As far as I could tell that version was not available standalone (it was offered only as an update to the previous one).
Any chance you have the updated version? I believe that there's still a chance at least someone at the beta scene still has it.

Oddly enough, in the release you provided, the online installer is the correct version but (as far as I inferred from links I posted above) it just downloaded the older version (when it still worked).

Thanks for help. :)

Thanks for the links, ATeamInc. I've seen the first two but not the rest.

I see. Guess that means the update is lost media now. Thanks for explaining.

yeah that was the only version i had....i definitely do NOT have the updated version, back when i first got the installer i had a hard as heck time getting it to work (i am on x64 and from what i know its not supported), i believe i gave that installer to VistaCusto and Ludacris back in the day (2009-ish) and they were both able to get it running and working, i never knew there was a newer version out there and never heard about it until now...
