Windows Longhorn 4074 Sidebar problem...
Windows Longhorn 4074 Sidebar problem...
So, I recently installed a "custom" version of Longhorn 4074, aka TWIWMTB. After having installed the LH2008 Beta 2 patch to it, explorer with the sidebar on stopped working altogether, and explorer would work only when the sidebar was completely disabled. How can i, in a way, uninstall LH2008 patch/restore the Sidebar to factory reset, so maybe it can work? I already tried to copy in an explorer.exe file from a working vanilla build of 4074, with no results

IIRC that beta 2 patch is just a broken thing. Why did you install it?
Most likely the system's .NET installation is toasted. You will need a reinstall.
I can't remember if that beta 2 patch was the one that "supposedly" integrates .NET 2 final release which is incompatible with Longhorn.

Actually, LH2008 Beta 2 was supposed to be installed on a clean system, not TWIWMTB. Have you tried doing so?

How would it differ though? TWIWMTB changes some resources only right?Resident007 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 6:58 amActually, LH2008 Beta 2 was supposed to be installed on a clean system, not TWIWMTB. Have you tried doing so?
EDIT: TWIWMTB actually does incorporate some explorer fixes and stuff, not sure if related to .NET.
@OP I actually researched '08 B2 and it seems to be incompatible in certain cases (a.k.a it likes to break). Try a different VM.
EDIT 2: The "final" version of 2008 patch is the messed up one. Here. Make sure you did not use that one.
Re: Windows Longhorn 4074 Sidebar problem...
I did install the Beta 2 version, I don't know if it's the "final" one or not... I know only that the sidebar doesn't work anymore, and that's it... Only solution is to reinstall everything, right?

Hello,
I don't know if that works on Longhorn 4074, but you can try to start the sidebar manually. If that doesn't work, you probably need to reinstall the system.
