Does Windows 1.00 exist?

Post by Lucas Brooks »

Found a MDSI Genius driver for Windows 1.x with 1.00 on it. You can download it here. Note it says Runtime V1.00 and the readme says "INSTALL FOR WINDOW VERSION 1.00 - 1.02"

Image

Code: Select all

                     INSTALLING MICROSOFT WINDOWS FOR

                              THE GENIUS VHR

                   GRAPHIC DISPLAY & ADAPTER (736x1008)

     This diskette contains three files that must be added to the WINDOWS
     disks, (backup your WINDOWS disks before adding these files).

           INSTALL FOR WINDOW VERSION 1.03
          [=================================================]

It's either a quirk by MDSI or it's a leftover from when the driver was being developed - some pre-release versions said 1.00.

You can't exactly leave something this important in that. If you can then whoever's responsible really screwed up.

Interesting thing, I'd like to test it. Can you please say what emulator/real hardware you were using to emulate MDSI Genius?

It happened more often than you might think, even within Microsoft itself. Considering there never was a retail 1.00 release, I don't see how leaving a 1.00 in this readme can negatively affect the customer?
