I am trying to install Windows NT 5.0 Build 1743, but it always gets stuck on the blue screen with the Kernel Debugger and OS Information, I disabled ACPI, I did upgrades from Windows 95 and Windows NT 5.0 Build 1585, I installed with a MS-DOS bootdisk, but nothing seems to work.
Image for proof:
*Sorry about the image quality, I was using my HP Photosmart E337 Camera from 2007.*
Can anyone help me? Is there a solution that REALLY works?
If there is, I would like to hear it!
Thanks!
-Sherman
*P.S. I am using Virtual PC 2007*

Re: Windows NT 5.0 Build 1743 Setup gets stuck on blue scree
Did you set the date correctly? Use February 9, 1998.
Use a Windows 95 bootdisk, then install a Windows 98 build (recommended is 1681) as normal until you get to the startup disk part, create a bootdisk
How to make a floppy in VPC 2007:
Step 1: With your Windows 98 build of choice, do setup as normal, until you go to the startup disk page.
Step 2: Click on edit, then click on settings.
Step 3: Click on Hard Disk 1, then click on Virtual Disk Wizard.
Step 4: Click Next, then next again, then click "A virtual floppy disk"
Step 5: Type in something like "boot disk for 1743".
Step 6: Click on finish.
Step 7: Create a new VM, recommended size is 4GB for these kinds of builds.
Step 8: Set the date back to February 9, 1998.
Step 9: In your new VM, turn off hardware virtualization.
To do this, select your VM, open up the action menu then click on settings. Click on Hardware Virtualization, then untick the checkbox that says "Enable hardware-assisted virtualization".
Step 10: Boot into your newly created Windows 98 boot disk, and fdisk and format it as normal,
Step 11: Insert a Windows 98 build's iso of your choice, then copy smartdrv.exe to the root.
Step 12: Restart with the 98 boot floppy still inserted.
Step 13, Insert the 1743 iso, after that, type in c: then smartdrv.exe and then a: and finally then type cd e:/i386.
Step 14: You should be in the i386 folder. Type in winnt /b and press enter twice.
Step 15: Good luck installing this build, as this one can be really hard to install, apparentaly.

How do I disable hardware virtualization in Virtual PC 2007? I know how to disable ACPI and APM, but not hardware virtualizationDisable hardware virtulization first, then turn off ACPI and APM.
(Update, Never mind, I found out how to disable hardware virtualization in Virtual PC 2007, and guess what, it finally got past that screen! Thank you Windows Thunderstruck!)

Ok, another problem, now I am getting the BSOD on this build, saying it was ntoskrnl.exe's fault, how do I fix this.

This build is really hard to install on most machines, like when I installed 1745 Server.
In this case, you may want to use PCem instead, like I did for that one.

This build doesn't like some specific cpuid values from either the host or emulator. I'd suggest you use 86Box or PCem.
Re: Windows NT 5.0 Build 1743 Setup gets stuck on blue scree
I installed this build by running winnt32.exe on an older Windows NT 5.0 build and choosing custom install on QEMU with the emulated CPU being a Pentium 2 with 128MB of RAM. PCem just hung booting the TXT setup and VARCem hung installing network.
Re: Windows NT 5.0 Build 1743 Setup gets stuck on blue scree
Tip 1: Change the BIOS date.
Tip 2: Choose different virtual emulator
Tip 3: Make sure if the CD/DVD is still here, don't remove it during setup.

Well, I got it working on 86Box without a hitch, just the network setup is a bit broken, but once I restarted the setup after network setup made it hang, the latter proceeded without a hitch (and yes, this also happens in vmware about the network setup) and completed setup successfully.Caveria wrote:Tip 1: Change the BIOS date.
