"Microsoft Windows" winver banner?

Post by DiskingRound »

I opened the winbrand.dll from Longhorn 4029 using Resource Hacker and digged through the Bitmaps section and found this.

Was this used in any builds? If so, where does it appear? I'm quite lazy to check all the builds we have to look for this winver banner.

In XP, if you use the Classic setup option, this bitmap appears before the setup wizard comes up.

I am sure it is used in Pre-4xxx builds in the version dialog, launched from About Windows.

It actually can come before installation, if the drive/CPU is slow(I think , I saw it in a VM).

No.
1) Builds above 4051 uses Windows Longhorn winver branding.
2) Most builds have either Longhorn Professional or Longhorn winver branding.
3) I suppose only the 1st 3 versions of Longhorn have this winver branding.

Your post that he was responding to talked about pre-4xxx builds only. It's only all of those that he says uses the default XP branding.
