can anyone suggest a light-weight easy to use firewall for xp? i just want one that really control and disable programs from using the net (not like the xp one)
From my own experience,I can recommend Kerio Personal Firewall - reliable and puts you in control (you can control how programs connect to the net, control application behaviour etc). Not exactly lightweight, but certainly not a resource hog.
Running a firewall right on your machine is like making soldiers ride in a pinto with body armor rather than giving them a tank. If an exploit is found in the TCP/IP stack, your software firewall wont save you
Kerio Personal Firewall but if you have an older pc you could install smoothwall and use that as a hardware firewall, That is what I have done and works wounders on my network.
