00 USB mass storage devices found and configured

Post by WeirdEars »

I have a computer that won't load up after a BIOS update. The screen says:

Initialising USB Controllers .. Done.
2048MB OK
USB Device(s): 1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse
Auto-detecting USB Mass Storage Devices ..
00 USB mass storage devices found and configured.

Then it hangs. I've tried disabling legacy USB support and disabling USB altogether, but the computer still hangs. I updated the BIOS because I needed a feature that came with the upgrade. Occasionally, I get a beep code that is two short beeps, a pause, then eight more short beeps. The BIOS is AMI and the board is an MSI P6NGM. Is there anything that can be done to save this computer or am I screwed?

Seems that some error occurred during BIOS update. Your PC will live, but I think that you have to contact service-center. They will reprogram your BIOS flash chip.

Try enabling "Let Operating system configure plug and play devices"

I don't seem to have that option in my BIOS, thanks for the advice anyway, though.

I googled and someone says it may be a CPU fail, GPU fail... Anything.
There is no way to identify the root of the problem.
1. Are you sure you flashed precisely the same model of BIOS as your motherboard?
2. Unplug PSU, unplug CMOS battery and wait some time. Plug them back again. Try.
3. Try unplugging also USB controller from your mobo (if it's not integrated).
4. Unplug any unneeded devices (internal and external).
5. Disconnect SCSI, IDE, SATA.

Unplug your HDD's

Its hanging on the HDD detection

If it passes POST with no HDDs in and says no operating system found or something similar, the isssue is with the HDDs

more like, try unplugging all components. I had an HP Desktop that I removed all components of and it still failed.

If you can reflash the BIOS, I had all kinds of problems after flashing mine. This would only be useful though if your BIOS's setup program support flashing through it like mine.

Edit: Try to unplug all USB devices except for your keyboard.

Was the BIOS flash good or was it botched? If it was good, just pull out the CMOS battery or look for a jumper that allows you to wipe the BIOS settings.
Sometimes people forget to code in the CMOS reset
Program run condition: collect keys. Deadline: 2 days.
