Internet on NT 3.1

Post by TheCollector1988 »

not even showing a little percentage of page while within Mosaic, Netscape Navigator (version 3.0), Internet Explorer 2.01 (for Windows 3.x), and I've even set the TCP/IP Stack correctly with my LAN, but still nothing. And I've set Virtual PC's connection type to NAT. I've also installed the GF100-TX Adapter (DEC 21140) for NT 3.1. any help?

you may want to check if the problem is actual connectivity, or web browser issues.
I have a VM with Windows 95 and IE 5, and several webpages don't load at all or load incorrectly because the browser is too old to support modern web programming styles.
a webpage that should load no matter what is www.google.com. if that loads, then you know you're going to need a more recent browser. otherwise, try pinging some remote host, or attempt to perform HTTP requests through telnet to check where the issue lies.

Internet Explorer 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 for Windows 3.1x don't work on NT 3.1

remember that Windows NT 3.1's TCP/IP stack doesn't have native DHCP support.

I already know that, that's why I asked how to get Internet to work

Make sure whatever IP address you gave NT 3.1 is outside your DHCP pool.
Goodbye.

Ok, so...... what did you set it to?

can you at least ping the other side? maybe it's a DNS-issue?
I know old Mosaics speak HTTP, that is too old to be served by modern Web Servers, but at least IE 3 should be able to pull a site (although displaying it wrong, of course)

Get your static IP settings ready and install Netscape 3.04. That's it.

Netscape 4.08, Opera 3.62 also works.
