Extremely confused
I will be writing about Windows 7 at the BETAArchive wiki, but I want to have a clarification. What is the difference between the 3 builds listed below:
* 6801.winmain_win7m3.080913-2030
* 6801.winmain_win7m3.081020-1655
* 6933.winmain.081020-1842
* 6801.winmain_win7m3.080913-2030
* 6801.winmain_win7m3.081020-1655
* 6933.winmain.081020-1842

And 6933 was shown at the Opening Keynote or on a workstation.

AFAIK, the same build number with different build dates just means they may have had issues during the build process which were corrected but no real changes were made otherwise. Of course I really have no idea what I'm talking about. Also, don't forget about 6935. Where did 6935 come from anyway? I've only seen the build tag in posts, never any actual info.

My guess, also stating in advance that I really have no idea what I'm talking about, is that people are simply reading/writing 6933 incorrectly. Build tags usually don't get outside of Microsoft unless they're distributed to testers or being demonstrated, and nothing after 6933 that I know of has been.QuiescentWonder wrote:AFAIK, the same build number with different build dates just means they may have had issues during the build process which were corrected but no real changes were made otherwise. - 6801.winmain_win7m3.080913-2030 - Winfuture's build that they leaked screenshots of recently
6801.winmain_win7m3.081020-1655 - The build being given out to attendees at the PDC
6933.winmain.081020-1842 - The build demonstrated at the PDC. It has not been leaked, despite claims it has.

Not completely correct.hounsell wrote:

6.1.6801.0 (winmain_win7m3.080913-2030) - this is the build given out to PDC attendees
6.1.6801.4107 (winmain_win7m3.081020-1655) - this is only a security fix for 6.1.6801.0
This is a picture of the 6801.0 discs given out at PDC:
Filenames of the isos on the HDD are:
Windows 7 32-bit: 6801.0.080913-2030_Client_en-us_ULTIMATE-ULTIMATE_GB1CFRE_EN_DVD.iso
Windows 7 64-bit: 6801.0.080913-2030_Client_en-us_ULTIMATE-ULTIMATE_GB1CXFRE_EN_DVD.iso
Windows 7 Server 64-bit: 6801.0.080913-2030_amd64fre_Server_en-us-GB1SXFRE_EN_DVD.iso
Microsoft did not release any of the newer builds, because they did not have enough time to test
the new features (new taskbar etc.). Since they wanted to release a stable build they have chosen 6801.0...
