How do I recover my Windows ME install?

Hi

I foolishly installed Windows XP on the same partition as my Windows ME install and when i put the Windows ME install into boot.ini after i rebooted the system said that it was missing hal.dll. I was wondering if there was a way to fix it?

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that you cannot restore Windows ME, because, as you yourself wrote that you installed Windows XP in the same partition as Windows ME, the Windows XP setup program deleted old files that belong to Windows ME and then copied its installation files to the hard drive. Consequently, Windows ME will no longer be able to start without its files.
