Strange Web Active Desktop component in Windows 2000 build 1946
Strange Web Active Desktop component in Windows 2000 build 1946
I was looking around today in Windows 2000 build 1946 (with it being also my first time I've ever get a 2000 beta running).
I was gong around in Display Properties, and I saw in the Web tab, a strange additional component. Other than the usual "My Current Home Page", there was a strange "Calculator" page. I'm sure it wasn't something that I installed accidentally as an extra, as it was just a fresh install. So it's very strange to see this additional component preinstalled in this build. Microsoft was working in something like Gadgets, but using the Active Desktop, even back in 2000?

I think that's an interactive widget.

Mind uploading the relevant files somewhere? I can give it a try on NT 4 active desktop, should work in theory.

NT is a lot more picky. Heck, 95 is picky too. Besides, I do not remember the 95 experience to be fun when it BSoD'd a lot in my face, but NT here is fine to the point I installed IE 6 and all the usual stuff I install (option pack, reskit,...). 95 is not that useful today (at least for me) but NT does open up some possibilities. Believe it or not, the real bottleneck is the harddrive speeds. I have it set up on an external SD that is the slowest ever. I don't want to wear my phone's storage yet.
Yes, it BSoD'd 3 times with a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED that were pretty random but haven't had one since SP4 and I've had the thing on yesterday from 10AM to 2:30AM. Guess it's good then.

Post then how it looks in NT 4, or in any other Windows version you try it on1

I like your NT 4 setup, I had a NT 4 VM too but it decided to break, so I had to jump on 2000, which I was planning for a long time.
On 2000, I had too that strange white space, but at least here, you can resize it (I've imported it on my 2195 VM so it's much better), I don't remember if on NT 4 you can do that.
How it looks on my 2000 VM for reference: https://imgur.com/VhZCnm5 (didn't upload the other way as it didn't let me do it)

Well, I did not find the option for resizing. I guess you can't do that on NT. Probably editing the HTML file can allow you to change the size (maybe fix the border too).fraaaa4 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 10:16 pmI like your NT 4 setup, I had a NT 4 VM too but it decided to break, so I had to jump on 2000, which I was planning for a long time.

Liked my simple NT VM? Just see the screenshot of my NT pc at the desktop screenshot thread. Been working on it for a while .
