Newest Version of Windows Media Player compatible with 98SE
I got a Windows 98 laptop a few days ago, and I would like to know what the latest version of Windows Media Player compatible with it is. Right now it has version 6.01.05.0217. Thanks in advance!
I collect old laptops and mess with old software.

Thanks! That worked. Could I run anything newer under KernalEx?

Looks like the best chance of that is with NT 4.0 or Me. So, I think I will have to settle with version 9 for now . It's fine though, my original goal was just to get a version running that had visualizations and could play some MP3s that MP6 couldn't do. Thank you everyone!

Last version supported under Windows 98 1st edition was WMP 7.1.

9 works flawlessly, but it is possible to install 10.

Believe or not, I actually got Windows Media Player 10 run in Windows 98. Although it is highly unstable and couldn't play any format for music or video. It is still very interesting.
(Sorry I forget how I made it work and I am work hard to find the way that i made it work.)

Personally I like to use the stock WMP Version from Windows 98, 6.01, also if I want some modern one like XP's, i use WMP 7 or 7.1.
