Why don't Windows 95C work on DOSBox?

Post by AzraelJD »

Hello! A while ago I tried to install Windows 95C to DOSBox. It installed successfully, I've installed the drivers for the Sound Blaster 16, S3, etc. that Windows 95 needs. But I needed Safe Mode to install them. If I try to double-click to run the setup, it'll say "INSTALLER.EXE has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." in every setup app I've tried. Anyone know why this happens?

Vanilla dosbox doesn't officially support Windows 9x. Use dosbox-x instead.

Just keep in mind that it's pretty unstable nonetheless.

I recommend using something along the lines of PCem or Virtualbox instead.

VMware can be used as well.

Win95C may contain Opcode which is not emulated by DosBox, which has its focus on 80s IBM-PCs.
Get PCem, you will be happier with it.
