Build 4001 had some sort of desktop backoground, that reminds of aurora, but it's not.
But in build 4017 there was an updated wallpaper, that is actually aurora.
There is a red variant in Milestone 6.
Milestone 7 builds didn't have an aurora background, but as far as I remember there were some aurora controls. You may notice that it was focused on matte gradients.
This is the one of the first post-reset builds. It just had Windows XP design.
Build 5048 introduced a new design, seems to be based on latest pre-reset themes.
Next builds were focused on glossy smooth gradients.
And next builds (especially 5284) introduced a new blue-green aurora design that remained to the end.
==============
Both Windows Vista boot screens were incomplete, but Microsoft preferred to use a VGA one. Seems like they continued development in Windows 7:
Windows 7 build 6608 boot screen
Windows 7 build 6730 boot screen
But then they remade it without aurora. Personally I prefer design like in 5112 build.

I really liked the Aurora effects from both Windows Vista's and 7's development. You should've shown an image of Windows Longhorn build 4074's Aurora effects too!

I do indeed agree with that statement. Its a perfect mix. I would've probably voted for 4074 or maybe one of the other ones with working DWM/DCE.
Now let's talk about Windows 8's cute little avatar thing on the taskbar. That was a nice thing.
AFAIK you need to have an unpatched .NET Framework 2.0 installed for it to work, as MS has blocked the ability to render XAML in the browser as a security measure in one of their patches.
