Hey!
So I'm trying to install 1796 in VMWare Workstation but keep hitting this when VMWare captures my mouse upon boot.
Any ideas??

Try to change date on BIOS first

Re: Windows NT 5.0 1796 Install
Or don't use VMware at all for this build.
Re: Windows NT 5.0 1796 Install
I've had a very difficult time installing Nt5.0 on VMware. I got a few beta 2 builds working. But driver install and getting the sound driver to work always resulted in some odd issues, or the OS would just break. Try V-box, I had success getting one of the server builds to install with drivers and just about everything else.

Just tested 1796 in 86Box, it installs and runs without any problems.

Re: Windows NT 5.0 1796 Install
Betas of this kind are generally not well suited for hypervisors like VMware or VirtualBox. There's a slight chance they may just work, and that is without the fancy bells and whistles like higher display resolutions, 16-bit color depth, sound, etc.
Recently, I successfully tested a few early NT 5.0 builds on 86Box. Here is an extremely abridged list of the specifications the machine (I tested 1729) had:
Machine: [Socket 7 HX] ASUS P/I-P55T2P4
CPU: Intel Pentium 120
Memory: 64 MB
Video: [PCI] Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM (S3 Vision964) (4 MB VRAM)
SCSI controller: [PCI] BusLogic BT-958D (BIOS enabled)
Hard drive: at least 500 MB, SCSI
CD-ROM drive: SCSI bus, ID 2, 16x speed
I should note that build 1796 is timebombed, so please turn time sync off in 86Box settings and set the BIOS date to some between May 1 and December 27, 1998.
