(Offer) O/S2 Presentation Manager for NT

I'm about to do a test run on the portable Alcohol 120% used here to archive CDs, figured I'd do a test run first on a CD that's small in size, if it's of any use I'll up it now for the ftp admin to say yay-or-nay on my usage of Alcohol.
The scans already near 3000x3000.tif so I know it'll pass..

Sounds good, as long as the scans are at least 600dpi it should be fine. Make sure there are no finger prints or dust on the discs or scanner glass.

If you upload your stuff to the cloud then PM me the links and I'll grab them. Don't use the BA image uploader for scans.

Yeah I'm not that daft, 19mb image would be murder..

Iv'e uploaded it to the public upload account, in a folder named "From_Ken_" I couldn't rename it "From_Ken_finished" when done as the permissions didn't allow it..

My scanner is always dust free, though the disc has minor marks as it was just loose in a box of discs given to me some weeks back.

It's a genuine Select CD with just 5 floppy images on it.

19MB images are nothing, we've had 100MB images easily It's about the quality, not size really...

I've downloaded it and will check it this weekend and get back to you if something is wrong or if everything is fine.

Yeah it's 600 dpi, I forgot to mention that when I stated it's dimensions, I tend to type & run when I'm doing things like this in between other jobs..

Everything looks great, thanks! I've added it to the FTP with the cryptic title "1998-07 - PC Server 1 [English]" (as it's printed on the disc) and added a readme explaining it has the OS/2 PM for NT.

These Select discs are very rare these days so it's always great to get new additions!

There's also one that looks to be packed with a fair few alpha/betas of MS apps in it..

README.HTM -- GUIDES YOU THROUGH THE PRODUCTS ON THIS Compact Disk (CD)
=======================================================================

When you insert the CD, autorun should bring up the internet browser with
the readme.htm file present at the root of the CD. You need the Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 3.0 or later or any browser which supports frames
to view this readme.htm file.  You can install IE 3.01 by changing directory
to the ie301 directory and running iesetup.bat.

If you encounter any problems with autorun failing to bring up the readme.htm
file for viewing, you should install IE 3.01 from the CD. IE 3.01 installation
requires a reboot of the machine. After rebooting, you should remove the CD
from the drive and then re-insert it so that autorun again tries to bring up
the readme.htm. If this doesn't work, try to run the readme.htm file by double
clicking it in the explorer. This should bring up the file for viewing.

This file has links to install the products that are included on the CD as
well as pointers to documents, interesting samples, etc.  Since this
file has a number of links to Microsoft Word Documents you may wish to
read those documents on a machine that has Microsoft Word or Microsoft Office.

If you don't have any of these two, you can also use WordPad to view the
documents. WordPad can be installed by default during Windows NT 4.0
installation, as an optional accessory during custom install or later through
the Control Panel Add/Remove applet "Windows NT Setup" tab. Alternatively on
X86 machines you could also install the Microsoft Word Viewer Ver 7.1 from
the \WordViewer71 directory by loading the WordViewer71EULA.htm file into your
browser and using the link in this HTM file to do the installation.


PRODUCTS THAT ARE ON THE CD
===========================

Though links to readmes and setup programs are given in the list below the
preferred way of browsing and installation on the Distributed Systems
Technology Preview disk is by bringing up \readme.htm in your browser
and navigating to the individual products.

1. NTDS: Distributed Services Technology Preview (DSTP) Alpha (Build 0057) for
   Windows NT(R) 4.0 workstation and server (PDC). Some of the new
   technologies included in this are a Directory Service, Distributed
   Security, Distributed Search, Distributed File and Print, Distributed COM,
   Distributed Time Service and the Microsoft Management Console. This release
   does not support Windows 95 machines.

   Readme: \NTDS\Readme.txt.  Setup: \ntds\dssetup.bat.

2. MTX: Microsoft Transaction Server(MTx), Beta2-PDC version. Microsoft
   Transaction Server is a powerful environment that makes it easier to
   develop and deploy high performance, scalable, and robust enterprise,
   Internet, and intranet applications. Microsoft Transaction Server defines
   an application programming model for developing distributed,
   component-based applications. It also provides a run-time
   infrastructure for deploying and managing these applications.

   This Beta version is for Windows NT version 4.0, it has not been tested
   with the Technology Preview version of the Distributed Services.

   Readme: \MTX\README.HLP.  Setup: \MTX\setup.exe.

3. MSMQ:  This has the Microsoft Message Queues Beta 1. This enables
   applications running at different times to communicate across heterogeneous
   networks and systems that may be temporarily off line.

   This Beta version is for Windows NT version 4.0, it has not been tested
   with the Technology Preview version of the Distributed Services.

   Readme: \MSMQ\readme.txt and \MSMQ\MSMQ\DOC\ADMIN.DOC.  For setup follow
   directions in \MSMQ\MSMQ\DOC\ADMIN.DOC.

4. K2:	Alpha (Build 0370) of the next major release of Microsoft Internet
   Information Server beyond Internet Information Server 3.0.  The setup
   for this product also offers installation of the ASP product mentioned
   below.

   If you choose to install Active Server Pages as part of your K2 setup on
   your Windows NT 4.0 server, some 16 bit Programs may hang after installation,
   for example 16 bit Acme Setup. To recover from this hang, open a command
   window and type "net stop iisadmin" to stop the Internet Information Server.
   To restart the service type "net start w3svc"

   Readme: \k2\readme.htm. Setup: \k2\setup.exe.

5. Internet Information Server 3.0 Beta2.  This comprises of the following
   sub-products that need to be separately installed on top of the
   Internet Information Server 2.0.

   a) ASP: This contains a post Beta1 release (10.25a) of the Active Server
   Pages. Active Server Pages is the way to generate dynamic,
   browser-independent web content from your server. The next generation
   Distributed services leverage Active Server Pages for Administration.

   After you install Active Server Pages, some 16 bit programs may hang,
   for example 16 bit Acme Setup. To recover from this hang while running
   on Windows NT, open a command window and type "net stop w3svc" to stop
   the Internet Information Server. To restart the service type
   "net start w3svc". To recover from this hang while running Windows95,
   go to Personal Web Server Properties, select the Startup tab, and
   push Stop. To restart the web server, press Start.

   Readme: \asp\x86\readme.txt.  Setup: \asp\aspsetup.bat.

   b) IS11: This contains the release version of Index Server 1.1. The Index
   Server is a product that can be used to index and search many different
   filetypes, and is used in conjunction with Microsoft Internet Information
   Server, or Peer Web Services.

   Readme: \IS11\readme.txt.  Setup: refer to \IS11\[i386|alpha|ppc]\index.txt.

   c) FP97: Front Page 97 Beta2 for authoring web pages and managing
   web sites. Note that this Beta2 version of Front Page 97 has not been
   tested with K2, so you should not install this on a machine which has
   the version of K2 on this compact disk installed on it.

   Readme: \FP97\readme.txt.  Setup: \FP97\setup.exe.

   d) NetShow:	Beta2. This is an open software platform for basic delivery
   of live and on-demand multimedia content over corporate networks.

   This Beta version is for Windows NT version 4.0, it has not been tested
   with the Technology Preview version of the Distributed Services. Note also
   that this version of NetShow does not work with the version of K2
   on this compact disk.

   Readme: \NetShow\default.htm.   Use same for setup links.

6. IE 3.01:  This contains the 3.01 version of the Microsoft Internet
   Explorer.  You need to install this before you install the NT Directory
   Services product.  It is needed to use the DSWeb Administration tool.

   Readme: \IE301\readme.txt.  Setup: \IE301\iesetup.bat.

7. WSH: Windows Script Host. Alpha (Build22). This is a language-independent
   scripting host for 32-bit Windows platforms. The Windows NT Binaries are
   installed along with NTDS. The Win95 binaries need to be separately
   installed.  WSH requires that you have IE version 3.0 or above installed
   on your machine.  For Windows 95 machines you can install IE 3.01 by
   running \IE301\msie301m95.exe on this CD.

   Readme: \WSH\readme.txt.   Setup: \WSH\Win95\setup.exe.

8. SP1: This contains the Service Pack 1 for Windows NT 4.0.  Service Pack 1
   is required for the Distributed Services Technology Preview.

   Readme: \SP1\readme.txt.  Setup: \SP1\sp1setup.bat.

Distributed Services Technology Preview - Special info for MIPS users
Microsoft is phasing out future development and engineering efforts for the MIPS platform. Since most of the material at this PDC deals with projects that have not yet been released we have removed support for the MIPS platform from this Distributed Services Technology Preview.

This decision was driven by decreasing demand for MIPS-based systems from our customers and OEMs. In addition, our largest OEM for the MIPS platform, NEC has decided not to enhance the MIPS platform after Windows NT 4.0.

Over the last five years, Microsoft has shown a strong commitment to the MIPS platform. In fact, all of Microsoft's BackOffice products and a number of its development tools are available for the MIPS platform. It has released Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server in a number of languages and will continue to support the NT 4.0 MIPS platform for its customers moving forward. Longer term customers should plan to evaluate other hardware platforms for Windows NT solutions.

Very nice! I wish I hadn't thrown away all the Select discs I had access to at school, but this was long before I even considered preserving stuff... :/.

Nice find. It looks like this version of the Presentation Manager is for Windows NT 4, instead of the earlier version for NT 3.x. I'll get a NT 4 system set up so that I can test them.

OOF. Reminds me of when I rerecorded over part of a tape from the 1990s with some cartoon in like 2011. At least most of the tape survived, but still.
