Post by OdysseyNeptune »

I saw this on a video, but what would the differences between it and the normal 5111 would be?

The disc of 5111.6 is seen in a Channel9 video. It isn't too different from the leaked 5111.

Might have done some bug patching. By the way, I'm amazed that Microsoft jumped at least 4000 build numbers prior to the Whistler project that became Windows XP. Of course, Microsoft did catch up eventually when Windows Vista entered its Beta 1 stage, but I'm just curious why it jumped that many build numbers.

The actual number of jumped numbers is unknown. The leaked Neptune build 5111.1 is a Milestone 2 build. However, we do not know how far back or forward the Milestone 2 build numbers have extended. Furthermore, nothing is known about the build numbers of Milestone 1 builds and preliminary builds.

However, 5111-2195 = 2916, and its safe to assume that the number of compiled builds is negligible when compared to that figure. So if you're referring to the total number of skipped build numbers (in the sense that 1 -> 10 -> 20 would be 17 skipped numbers), that figure is probably just south of 3,000.

There is a file in a Millennium build that has the version number 5.50.5022. It is unknown whether or not the build actually exists.

The existence of Build 5000 neither been proven nor disproven.

There's actually several files with different versions, found in many Millennium builds, that may or may not be from Neptune.

That one has Product Name Microsoft Neptune Operating System in the file properties. That doesn't prove that a build with that build number was compiled however, since some files may be updated without a full recompilation.
