[REQUEST] MS-DOS 5.00a Upgrade (English)...

Post by Battler »

This site has a listing of its files: http://16bitos.com/500ums.htm , so it definitely exists.
If someone has it, it would be greatly appreciated if they could upload it.

Isn't it supposed to be one of the most common versions of MS-DOS?

- xelloss: Yeah, but the thing is, everywhere I search for, including the BetaArchive FTP, has 5.00 non-upgrade, 5.00 upgrade, and 5.00a non-upgrade, but not 5.00a upgrade. I can't seem to find 5.00a upgrade anywhere.

Only 16bitos seems to have it and good luck getting it from its owner as the person has been here on BetaArchive before and stated he will never share any binary because he follows copyright law to the letter.
The other person that has it (albeit the 360k version) is ibmpc5150 here: https://forum.winworldpc.com/discussion ... enshot/p14 . Scroll down to see it. If someone can contact him and ask him to upload it somewhere, that would be nice. Or if someone else has it and was able to provide it.

You MAY mistake... 05:00 is the time of the file, and the letter “a” mean archive, I suppose... you remember the attribute for the file in MS DOS? A is for archive, H is for hide, R is for read... me too I can mistake!

- marceg16579: The letter "a" in the time stands for AM, meaning it's 05:00 in the morning. :p But this *IS* MS-DOS 5.00a, look at the November 11th, 1991 date, as well as the files that differ from the 5.00 non-a upgrades that we have.

Yeah, November 1991 is 5.00a for sure. Original 5.00 is from May 1991 IIRC?

I won the auction, I'll just have to figure out how to dump it since I don't have a functional 5.25'' floppy drive at the moment
Also known as Cvolton elsewhere...

2022 update: I now have both the 720k and the 1.2 MB versions. The 1.2 MB version is on the MS Select System Software disc uploaded by ReflectiaX, while the 720k version was dumped by user Kevin of my Discord server. I have both already rar'ed up properly, they are going to be uploaded to the FTP soon, alongside quite a lot of other stuff that has been found over the years.
