Windows NT 5.0 build 1745 trap error

Post by Windows Thunderstruck »

I am trying to install Windows NT 5.0 Server build 1745 in Virtual PC 2007.

When I try to install to install this build, it shows the the setup UI for a split second, then it crashes with a trap error

I don't want to use PCem, QEMU, or Bochs unless it's absolutely necessary.

I know that Ultrawindows got this build working in VPC 2007 way back in 2011, but I do not know how he installed it.

My processor is an Intel Celeron N2840.

In a QEMU settings, I see it's needed to disable ACPI. In VPC, you can do it in VM's BIOS Setup, try that.

Already turned off ACPI and APM, no effect.

There's gotta be some way to get this build working, 1743 worked on my former computer.

I can't upgrade from 1743 to 1745, as 1743 is a Workstation and 1745 is a Server build.

Even build 1631 installed perfectly with a 98 build 1559 floppy, so what's wrong with 1745?

Just don't use VPC2007 at all. And what's wrong with 86Box? Don't judge it from the slowness, it actually works better.

Installed it in PCem.

Had to make it a dual boot with NT 4 Server SP1.

Turns out that most beta 1 builds of NT 5.0 really, really hate Celerons.

Well, 1745 is one build that I will never touch again.

I've gotten both 1743 and 1745 to work in VPC 2007 (On a Windows 7 PC) atleast once (or with one of them twice) IIRC.

I'll try setting this build up later today because I'm not at home right now.

If you say these NT 5.0 builds hate celerons, then I'll try to get that build working in VPC 2007 on my celeron 2840 @2.16 Ghz. Maybe yours is too fast I guess?

It would be intresting to see your results with those two builds.

Especially with 1745.

I did succesfully install build 1743 on my former computer, and apart from the FDC.SYS glitch (just like 1796) it worked well on there. (I only tried it briefly)

Done on my old Windows 7 laptop w/ VPC 07 (1.3GHz, AMD E-300):
-I booted with Windows 95 Bootdisk & 1745 CD inserted.
-I used fdisk and format C: to create a partition that's then formatted.
-I went to the i386 directory and ran winnt.exe /b. Went through the setup and copied the files, then took the CD & Floppy out.
-Go through text setup once more (copying files, etc.)...
-After restart it boots up into the GUI setup, go through it and you're done.

Didn't expect to go through all of the setup so easily to be honest. No blue-screens on my first try luckily. (1743/5 were never really known for being the easiest to install, lol.)
I think on the other PC that I've installed this before had an Intel Pentium and it was I think 2.8GHz.

Did you have to delete FDC.SYS like in 1796?

Yep, I used the Windows 95 Floppy to go to the directory of FDC.SYS and easily deleted it.
