MS-DOS 3.10 / Seattle DOS 3.10 OEM

Post by johnlemon647 »

Winworldpc have Seattle DOS 3.1 OEM version MS-DOS 3.10 this version of DOS is clearly for an IBM PC compatible computer. I wondered if this was in any way related to Seattle Computer Products. The information in the executables showed it was released by a company called "Falcon Technology". Looking it up, it turns out that Falcon Technology was in fact a company run by Tim Patterson, of PC/MS-DOS fame. It seems that their primary product was an all-in-one PC expansion card. But what is most interesting, Tim Patterson and Falcon Technology were granted a royalty-free license for MS-DOS that means they could sell copies without paying Microsoft. In 1986 Falcon Technology was bought by Microsoft to reclaim those royalty-free licenses, and Tim Patterson went back to work for Microsoft.

Somebody should check these unusual commands:

BADSPOT.COM
MOVE.COM
RENDIR.COM
SHIPDISK.COM

I guess MOVE and RENDIR pretty much explain themselves though.

Maybe BADSPOT.COM is some sort of disks diagnostics program and SHIPDISK.COM is a program to move the head of the hdd off the disks for when you need to move your computer, i remember seeing it in an IBM Diagnostic Disk
