Confusion: build number of NT 4.0 Service Pack 1

Post by Beluga »

At the moment I am looking at a few bits of software that I want to upload to the FTP and of course I want to get labeling right. I am bit confused right now regarding the build number of Service Pack 1 for Windows NT 4.0.

Almost everywhere on the internet it says that the SP1 build number would be 4.0.1381.2 (The build number for NT4 with no service pack should be 4.0.1381.1).

The problem is, that in SP1 there is not a single file that has version 4.0.1381.2. Instead all files have to original version number 4.0.1381.1. When I install a later OEM version that has SP1 built in, it is the same: everything (relevant for that patch), including NTOSKRNL is 4.0.1381.1.

Any hints on this?

Could it be that this is just a labeling issue and 4.0.1381.2 is the correct label for SP1 while no file actually has to have that version number?
