Post by DVINTHEHOUSEMAN »

When I try to install Windows 1.0 DR5, on disk 2 I get this:
"Disk error reading drive A
Abort, Retry, Ignore"

Well, you first need to copy install.bat to drive C: or in a folder of its, start setup from there but keep disk 1 in the floppy drive and follow the instructions.

What DOS version are you using? I hope it's not higher than 3.0.

It sounds to me like the second floppy image is corrupted. Try redownloading.

I would suggest you try using a hard drive with less than 32MB of total capacity. While larger drives than that should theoretically still work, since 32MB is only the max. volume size and you can have multiple volumes, things can still break in some obscure scenarios.

Just don't use MS-DOS 5.00, either use a DOS version lower or equal to 3.0 (but starting from 2.0).

Windows 1.0 DR5 work with MS-DOS 5.00, same with MS-DOS 6.22 ! :beta:
I did that a few months ago...

Here, PCem-X 10 with Award 430VX PCI, 95 MB RAM, Pentium 90Mhz, Drive A: = 5.25" 1.2M, Drive B: = 5.25" 1.2M, HDD1 = 12Mb :

Hmm, you should see in the BIOS if the A: drive is at 5.25" 1.2Mb or 5.25" 360kb, must be the same in the emulator !

The XT didn't have a BIOS setup utility as we know it today - there was a so-called "Advanced Diagnostics Disk" that you used to change the machine settings back in the day. However, I have serious doubts that the original poster is aware of this fact...
