News article mentions BA leaking 32TB of Windows 10 stuff

Post by Ricardo95 »

So yeah, I just found this through a Facebook post:
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/2 ... s_10_leak/
https://www.neowin.net/news/internal-bu ... -32tb-leak

Seriously? Who came up with this stuff. To me this just seems like fake news so I'm curious now.

Archive Stats: 70.58TB, 39,053 releases. [See more].

Think that going up from 30/40TB would say enough?

So who was the attention seeker here?

I love misunderstandings. Especially when mrpijey stated he won't allow private code to be on BA, hence the NT4 and Win 2k code removals.
Or is this different?

Only thing I see is the tbs of win10 builds.

Logged in and posting for the first time in year(s?) to check this out myself. Don't see it on the FTP though. Curious...

Yes I have no idea where they got the 32TB stuff. We had a big leak of Win10 builds yes, but these were all Windows Insider stuff that were collected over time available to all Windows Insider members at one time or another.

Whoever wrote the original article seems to have no idea what he's talking about, but yeah. This will spread around quickly and there's a thread on /g/ now.
Fake news or misconception? Either way, this is interesting.

So mrp, care to elaborate on this offending "shared source kit?"

BTW what's the /g/ link?

From what I know, the shared source kits are just about 50 MB each and contain very little source code in them, hardly what the media are making them out to be.

Windows Defender for great justice! Bugs are an international trading company. I need to defeat the anti-debugging and obfuscation methods. It wasn't for Intel's absurd ability to load in ie6. Why even waste time with people in an envelope?

One would think a publicity stunt.
I think not.

That could have come from anything really, what's the source of it being from one of these Source Kits?

32TB of data is an awful lot if the source code snippets are only 50mb? Isn't this stuff that Microsoft shares with 3rd party developers to implement hardware and driver support anyway?
