SCO OpenServer (1995)

Post by Pablooski »

Hello everyone.

I'm new to BetaArchive and would like to contribute with a software, however, I'm going to need your help.

For many years I have with me the original CD of SCO OpenServer of 1995. I suspect it is version 4.0 according to what I researched on the Internet. However, I have never been able to confirm it because the CD require a booting disk.

Someone of you had the opportunity to install or use SCO OpenServer in some of its versions?

If you guys help me with the identification of version, I will love to contributing with the disk image.

Here some photos:

Thanks!

Very nice!

Have you checked if the installation floppy isn't on the disc?

According to this page it's supposed to be in /images/boot. I quote from the website:

In addition, images of all floppy disks you might need exist in the /images/boot directory on the CD-ROM.

But a full copy and scan of this disc would be great for the collection!

I don't found a folder with that name inside the disk, but I notice that in some of the folders indicates that the version of the SCO OpenServer it's the 5.0. I gonna make a CD image with the indication of BetaArchive and gonna tried to upload into the Server.

Hello!

Right now I just uploaded a disk image of the SCO OpenServer to the FTP server, I would like it if you guys help me verify if I have done it correctly like it mentions the rules.
Please forgive me, I realized I forgot the scans. Right now I do not have a scanner, but if confirm I uploaded the file correctly, on Monday I will upload the CD image again but this time with the scans.

Thank you very much for your help.

No need to upload the CD again (at least not if its in the correct format), just upload the scans alone.
I upload stuff to archive.org from time to time. See here for everything that doesn't fit BA

From the looks of it it seems fine, however the log file from the dump is missing. And I'll await the scans before I process this.

After checking the contents of the disc I found the following:

\Opt\Archives\N00_1350: 1.44MB floppy image. Perhaps a boot floppy? It does have a boot image on it.
\Opt\Archives\N00_96d0: 1.2MB floppy image. Same as above?
\Opt\Archives\N01_96d0: 1.2MB floppy image. Could be a second boot floppy to fit everything that fits on a single 1.44MB.

Can anyone check these out and see if they are usable for this release? I've added this release to the FTP.

This is SCO Openserver 5.0.0
The complete package should contains few floppies. One of them is a boot diskette - supports only SCSI CDROMs. There is also an ATAPI supplement diskette.
I can provide them if needed.

Yes, they are from the original package. I uploaded them to the ftp. Could you add them to the release Pablooski has created.

Exactly the same? Same dates, ISO headers, contents, revisions etc? Because I don't want to mix and match releases without 150% proof that they are identical.

I suspect it's the same, since it has the same P/N.
