Red Hat PowerTools/Linux Archives 6-CD Set February 1997

Available now, the Red Hat Powertools is a great way to upgrade a previous version of Red Hat, plus get hundreds of megabytes, over 3 Gigabytes of the latest software at the same time.

Included in the 6 CD set is the latest version of Red Hat (4.1) for the Intel, Alpha, and SPARC architectures. The archives contain sources for software such as World Wide Web tools, X Windows Managers, multi-media tools, and a huge collection of games, too.

Also included:
  • The award winning Red Hat 4.1 Linux OS which includes:
    • Linux kernels up to 2.0.29
    • Experimental kernels up to 2.1.29
    • XFree86 window system, including window managers, giving you a full graphical desktop/windowing environment
    • C, C++, Java, and other popular language compilers
    • Full UNIX networking, including ethernet, SLIP, PPP, TCP/IP, in fact, everything to connect to the Internet as a client or server.
  • The famous sunsite.unc.edu Linux archive
  • The clearing house of X11 free software, the ftp.x.org contrib directory.
  • Latest snapshot of the ftp.xfree86.org.archive, including Linux binaries
  • vger Linux/SPARC archive

The PowerCD contains almost 50 new RPMs not available anywhere else. The precompiled packages can be easily installed onto a Red Hat system through the RPM management system. Among these new applications directed towards power-users are:

  • lincity a SimCity style game
  • fvwm2 latest beta of the fvwm window manager
