All im wondering is. Is there a way to have two versions of OS X on one hard drive and be able to boot between them rather than partitioning the disk?. Mainly i want to dual boot OS 10.4 and 10.1.
Thanks!

I don't think it's possible, as they both as *nix systems have very similar, if not the same directory structure. The Rougemacintosh wrote:All im wondering is. How about installing different version of OS X in different partitions?
You can still boot into different partitions by holding alt when the apple logo is shown on startup
But anyway I don't think this is the real meaning of dual boot

Sorry mate, you can't do that, all the files would interfere with themselves. My bet would be to partition the drive with Disk Utility then install the selected OS on that drive.

If this isn't an iMac or a Molar Mac, you can probably just add a 2nd hard drive for the purpose of beta testing science. Finding a 10 gig or so IDE drive shouldn't be too hard of an issue if you know anyone that's done computer repair - the 10 gigs are useless for modern tasks and are quite common.
Re: Dual boot two versions of OS X like OS 9 Classic mode
The only time I put two or more system versions on a single partition is:
a) pre-Mac OS 9, using System Picker to switch between them. I used this config on a former SE/30 (6.0.8, 7.0.1, and 7.5.5) and present Duo 230/100 (7.5.3, 7.6.1, I think I removed 8.1 but I did have it on there for some time).
b) OS X and OS 9 on the same partition works. I'm using such a setup right now on the iMac G4, and did the same for a former iBook G3 900MHz. The only issue is sometimes I can't access the Mac OS 9 Desktop Folder, so I just hop into Terminal and type
...and it pops right up.

open /Volumes/Classic/Desktop\ Folder/
